    Applications

    1. Sensor Signal Conditioning

    Due to its high input impedance and sufficient gain, the LM358 is very suitable for amplifying weak sensor signals to a level usable for reading by microcontrollers (such as Arduino, STM32) ADCs.

    Specific Applications: Signal amplification for thermocouples, pressure sensors, photodiodes, temperature sensors (e.g., NTC thermistors).

    2. Low-Power/Battery-Powered Devices

    The LM358's wide operating voltage range (as low as 3V) and very low quiescent current consumption make it an ideal choice for battery-powered devices, significantly extending battery life.

    Specific Applications: Portable instruments, remote controls, smoke detectors, wireless sensor nodes.

    3. DC Amplifiers and Buffers

    Its ability to handle DC signals and its output's capability to swing to the negative supply rail (ground) make it very suitable for use as a voltage follower (buffer) or DC gain stage to isolate different parts of a circuit.

    Specific Applications: Impedance matching, voltage level shifting, ADC input buffering.

    4. Active Filters and Integrators

    Although its bandwidth is limited and not suitable for very high-frequency applications, it is very effective for audio range or low-frequency signal processing (such as 50/60Hz power line frequency filtering).

    5. Comparators and Threshold Detectors

    Although slower than dedicated comparators, the LM358 is fully capable of being used in applications where high-speed response is not required, to detect whether a voltage exceeds a set value.

    Specific Applications: Over-voltage/under-voltage detection, window comparators, light-controlled switches, liquid level detection.

    6. Power Management

    Its wide supply voltage range (up to 32V) allows it to be used directly in 12V or 24V industrial systems for monitoring supply voltage or current.

    Specific Applications: Error amplifiers for linear regulators, current sense amplification, voltage monitoring circuits.


    Description

    Utilizing the circuit designs perfected for Quad Operational Amplifiers, these dual operational amplifiers feature low power drain, a common mode input voltage range extending to ground/VEE, and single supply or split supply operation. The LM358 series is equivalent to one−half of an LM324.

    These amplifiers have several distinct advantages over standard operational amplifier types in single supply applications. They can operate at supply voltages as low as 3.0 V or as high as 32 V, with quiescent currents about one−fifth of those associated with the MC1741 (on a per amplifier basis). The common mode input range includes the negative supply, thereby eliminating the necessity for external biasing components in many applications. The output voltage range also includes the negative power supply voltage.
